1. No pressure cook Dal-
Do you have a craving for dal but run out? No problem at all! I’ve discovered a super easy recipe to enjoy dal without soaking or pressure cooking. What are you planning to make?

Serving- 2
Preparation time- 5 minutes
Cook time- 20 minutes
Ingredient list- 1 tablespoon ghee
5-6 garlic cloves
1 green chilli
½ tablespoon grated ginger
1 medium-sized onion
1 medium size tomato
5 tablespoon gram flour (besan)
¼ tablespoon asafetida (Hing)
1 tablespoon cumin seed (Jeera)
1 tablespoon red chilli powder (laal mirchi powder)
½ tablespoon turmeric powder (Haldi)
1 tablespoon coriander powder (Dhaniya powder)
½ tablespoon cumin seed powder (Jeera powder)
Salt as per taste
Coriander leaves for garnishing
Instructions-
- First, place a pan on the stove.
- Once the pan is hot, add ghee.
- When the ghee is heated, add cumin seeds or asafoetida. After a brief roasting, add green chillies and either garlic or ginger and sauté them for a moment.
- Once these ingredients are well roasted, add chopped onions or tomatoes and cook them thoroughly.
- Next, mix in some spices, such as red chilli powder, turmeric, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Roast the mixture well. ( According to the measurements provided above)
- After that, add besan and roast it with the spices until it is well combined.
- Once everything is roasted properly, gradually add water and cook until it reaches a boil.
- Finally, sprinkle fresh coriander on top for added flavour.
2. Chana Dal-
Chana dal is a favourite for many, and it’s easy to see why! Usually, you’d soak it overnight to make it nice and soft for cooking the next day. But guess what? You don’t always have to wait that long! Even that you don’t need onion and garlic in this recipe. Today, I’m excited to share a quick and easy way to make chana dal without soaking it overnight. Let’s get started!

Serving- 2
Preparation time- 10 minutes
Cook time- 30 minutes
Ingredient list- 1 bowl chana dal
1 tomato
2 green chilli
½ tablespoon grated ginger
2 tablespoon oil
1 elaichi
1 small cinnamon stick
2 cloves
2 dry red chillies
1 bay leafs
1 tablespoon turmeric powder (Haldi)
1 tablespoon cumin seed (Jeera)
1 tablespoon red chilli powder (laal mirchi powder)
1 tablespoon garam masala
Salt as per taste
Coriander leaves for garnishing
Instructions-
- First, we will wash the chana dal thoroughly.
- After washing it in clean water, we will transfer it to a pressure cooker. Along with the dal, add 1.5 glasses of water, a pinch of turmeric, one cardamom pod, a small piece of cinnamon, and a few cloves. Cook it for 7-8 whistles.
- Meanwhile, we will chop the tomato, ginger, and green chilli into small pieces.
- Next, we will heat some oil in a pan. Once the oil is warm, we will add cumin seeds, a dried red chilli, and a bay leaf, sautéing them briefly.
- Once the spices are fragrant, we will add the chopped tomato, ginger, and green chilli, and cook until they are well roasted.
- After that, we will mix in some spices: turmeric, red chilli powder, garam masala, and salt. ( According to the measurements provided above)
- Once the spices are well combined and cooked, we will add the boiled chana dal to the mixture.
- When everything comes to a boil, we will garnish it with chopped coriander leaves and serve it hot.
3. Mix Dal-
Mixed dal is not only super easy to whip up, but it’s also delicious! It packs all the nutrients your body needs into one tasty dish, and I just love how flavorful it is. Plus, you can make it in just one pot, which means less cleanup! It’s perfect for those living in a hostel or anyone cooking for themselves. Give it a try—you won’t be disappointed!

Ingredient list- 1 bowl of all types of dal available
2 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon cumin seed (Jeera)
¼ tablespoon asafetida (Hing)
4-5 garlic cloves
2 green chilli
½ tablespoon grated ginger
2 medium-sized onions
2 medium size tomatoes
1 tablespoon red chilli powder (laal mirchi powder)
½ tablespoon turmeric powder (Haldi)
1 tablespoon coriander powder (Dhaniya powder)
Salt as per taste
Coriander leaves for garnishing
Instructions-
- First, we will wash all the dal thoroughly and set them aside.
- Next, we will chop the tomatoes, onions, ginger, garlic, and green chillies into small pieces.
- Now, we will turn on the gas and place a cooker on it.
- Next, we will heat some oil in a pan. Once the oil is warm, we will add the cumin seeds and hing briefly.
- Then, we will add the chopped ginger, garlic, and green chillies, and sauté them until fragrant.
- After that, we will add the chopped onions and tomatoes and continue to cook until they are well-roasted.
- Then, we will incorporate some spices, such as red chilli powder, turmeric, coriander powder, and salt. ( According to the measurements provided above)
- Once these ingredients are well mixed and cooked, we will add the washed dal to the mixture, ensuring everything is combined well.
- Next, we will add approximately two glasses of water, depending on the desired consistency of the gravy.
- We will cover the cooker with a lid and allow it to whistle for 5-6 whistles.
- Once everything is cooked thoroughly, we will transfer the dish to a serving plate and serve it hot.
